Hand-Painted Edge Swirl Pads: Citron and Nautilus
A hand-painted notepad with its whole story on the edge: a single swirl of color, laid on by hand in a nod to the nautilus shell, so that no two pads are alike. The pages stay a pale tint, which lets the painted edge read as a small abstract painting seen in cross-section.
Moglea paints the pads in Nautilus, on pale gray pages, and Citron, on pale yellow pages, each in its own palette, and makes them in sizes from pocket-ready to desk-sized, so there is a swirl for the coat pocket and one for the meeting table. Beside the keyboard in a home office, the painted edge catches the eye each time you reach for a sheet.
Moglea is the Des Moines, Iowa studio of Meg and Chad Gleason, who have run letterpress, foil stamping, and die-cut work on antique presses since 2012. It is a small, rigorous, joyful operation, and it shows.
