Les Guimards Desk Set: Poppy

A pen cup and catchall in a deep, complex red — iron oxide with real depth in it, the red a studio potter mixes by hand. Dipped to a level line above bare stoneware.

We commissioned Nathalie and Christophe Hurtault to make this pen cup and catchall for Wms&Co. in France. They throw each piece together on the wheel at their workshop in Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, in Burgundy, where the grey stoneware clay comes from their own quarry and is prepared by hand. Christophe mixes every glaze himself, from raw materials chosen to be safe for the people who work with them.

Use the tall vessel for pencils and pens, the low dish for clips, coins, a watch — or a toothbrush and a ring by the sink. Stoneware, glazed inside and above the dip line, raw below. Dishwasher and microwave safe. Cup and catchall, sold together.
