The Book of Colour Concepts

Color refuses to sit still. It's a wavelength, a feeling, a moral system, a kimono pattern — depending on which century, which country, and which obsessive you ask. The Book of Colour Concepts is Alexandra Loske and Sarah Lowengard's attempt to catalogue that refusal: a two-volume archive of the wheels, charts, and diagrams four hundred years of thinkers have built trying to make color hold still long enough to explain it.

Newton is here, and so is Goethe, arguing with Newton across a century. But the real find is everyone standing just outside that argument. Two Victorian theosophists who mapped color to spiritual states as if it were a chemistry.
